Cretan olive oil with a fruity taste
Written by Ingo in Food , tags: Crete , olive oil
Olive oil is good! A short statement behind the stands, however, very much. About the positive effects of different vegetable oils and olive oil in particular was certainly enough to already reported elsewhere. I am personally also believe that even in the most natural foods even much more to it to healthier potential than is currently accepted by most (which is why for sure butter is healthier than margarine industry product).
Olive oil can taste quite different. Our previous favorite destinations included Crete (there you go best in May, which are now no longer possible, because we are dependent on school holidays). Many experts say that come from Crete some of the best olive oils in the world. And far from an average of 300 sunny days a year and the location of polluting big cities this is not a surprise.
Several years ago we ate in a tiny tavern in Crete and found that both Tim had omelet and the salad has a distinctive flavor, with Silvie said at once that came from the olive oil. It was a very "fruity" taste, as though he tends to be common in olive oil, but otherwise not strong in this form. We have then the owner of the tavern be bought two bottles of his way, self-produced olive oil. Also on a different site on Crete, we found an olive oil that has the same flavor: Health Food Shop at Johanns in Kavros. Johann - a German who had settled in Crete, knew his way around with olive oil, which it referred directly by various farmers in the surrounding area. So we bought there also a bio-oil, which was of a quality that every few years when harvest comes - who knows, maybe actually making it one of the best oils in the world!
Back home, of course, a few months later, all stocks were exhausted. Since I had become so accustomed to the taste of olive oil - I poured it sometimes even directly to a disk of fresh bread with a little herb salt it - had to get her an equal supply. In the following weeks, so I tried out various Cretan olive oils kaltgespresste. Of these, there were indeed plenty of shops in Germany, but none had this typical taste, be it cheap or very expensive oils. When I had almost given up hope that I was still looking for: The olive oil brand Minos - available as in the subway or in the real - had the same taste (it also comes from the same region of Crete). It was also not particularly expensive time - 4,99 €, half liter. Thus, this oil is my absolute recommendation.
Incidentally, there is in Silvia's education blog a article on the effect of olive oil - they found that it works great applied externally for eczema and acne!
